eCarSounds gives your Tesla the live sound of a gas engine: a V8, V12 or flat-six that follows your real speed, played through the car's speakers. Open it in the Tesla browser, press Start engine and drive. It is free with no limits and no app to install. About eCarSounds
Volume is always in view; the rest is under More settings, right below it. Intensity controls how eagerly acceleration turns into throttle and how late it shifts. Character goes from a stock, muffled engine to a lumpy cam with open pipes and crackle. Crackle sets how much the exhaust pops and the engine misfires; 0% is a clean-running engine.
Test drive lets you hear the car without moving: press the Gas and Brake pedals (lower on the pedal presses harder; the top of Gas holds your speed), or play the demo run.
Autoplay last engine starts the car you drove last as soon as the page opens. If the browser blocks sound until you touch the screen, tap anywhere to start it.
Location stays in this browser: it is only used to measure speed and is never sent anywhere.
While parked, open this page in the Tesla browser, press Start engine and allow location access. Turn up the media volume and drive: the engine sound follows your speed. Bookmark the page so it is one tap away next time.
No. eCarSounds plays inside the car through the regular speakers, like music. A web page cannot use the external Boombox speaker.
The engine noise is driven by your speed, and the browser measures speed with GPS. Your location stays in the browser and is never sent anywhere.
A short one. In a Tesla the revs follow your speed about half a second behind, and when you floor it or lift off, the engine responds after about a second. About a quarter of a second of that is the car's own audio system; the rest is because GPS only sees the car speed up after it happens. On a phone, GPS updates once a second, so the sound reacts after about 1.5 to 2 seconds.
No. Every sound is synthesized live by our own code, so the engine reacts to each change in speed instead of looping a sample.
Yes, in any car with a modern web browser and location access. You can also use it on a phone connected to the car speakers by Bluetooth. Keep the page open: the sound stops when the browser goes to the background.
With Pro you can pick your own cars and put them in any order.
eCarSounds needs your location to measure speed. The browser remembers "Never allow", so it has to be switched back on:
Then reload the page and press Start engine again. Or use Test drive without GPS.
